The Psiloritis Geopark was established in 2001 as an informal Natural Park by the company A.K.O.M.M. - Psiloritis Development S.A. O.T.A. with the scientific support of the Natural History Museum of the University of Crete.<\/div>

Location<\/a><\/h2>
The Psiloritis Geopark is located in central Crete and encompasses the Psiloritis mountain range, from its southern foothills in the Messara region and the Amari basin, to its northern extension in the Kouloukonas range and the Cretan Sea. Administratively, it spans the regional units of Heraklion and Rethymno.<\/div>

Thanks to its rich geoscientific content, stunning landscape, and undeniable historical and cultural heritage, the Psiloritis Natural Park was, from the very beginning, included in both the European Geoparks Network and the Global Geoparks Network, thus spreading the renown of this place worldwide.<\/div>
