RescueME Workshop on December 4, 2025:\nCo-creation of local measures and resilience solutions<\/strong><\/p>\n

On December 4, 2025, the collaborative solutions workshop took place within the framework of the\nEuropean research project RescueME which was hosted by the Cultural Association of Aggeliana.<\/p>\n

The objective of the workshop was to create local measures and strengthen the community resilience of the coastal cultural landscape of RescueME area (Arkadi, Geropotamos and Kouloukonas Municipal Units) with an emphasis on agricultural production. The workshop was attended by 10 local stakeholders with knowledge in the field of agricultural production and tourism, entrepreneurs, local bodies and representatives from cultural creative sectors.<\/p>\n

The workshop consisted of three stages of meetings: two online (introduction to the issues and finding solutions, online in October-November 2025) and the final in-person meeting (in December), so as to plan the prioritization and implementation of innovative but realistic solutions. What solutions can we think of for the lack of education\/training of farmers in relation to the impacts of climate change on agriculture and traditional crops and how can issues such as the lack of comprehensive risk assessment in the production model and the lack of environmental quality certification be addressed?<\/p>\n

The 10 stakeholders acted as experts in their field and, divided into two groups with different themes, designed solutions related to the organization and activation of local groups (specifically on the issue of rational water management) but also to giving incentives and rewards to local producers. The solutions were recorded after analyzing potential direct and indirect effects, risks, time duration, replicability in other places and their nnovation\/diversity.<\/p>\n

The RescueME research project continues the collection of collaborative solutions in 2026, where at the end of February, resilience strategies for the cultural landscape will be jointly created in the form of a board Serious Game.<\/p>\n

Background:<\/em>
\nTwo years ago, the action of local collaborative design workshops began to shield the northern coast of the UNESCO Global Geopark of Psiloritis (semi-mountainous and lowland part of the Municipality of Mylopotamos & part of the Municipality of Rethymno) from the impacts of extreme weather phenomena such as droughts, water scarcity and, secondarily, floods through the European research project Horizon Europe, entitled RescueME. The first two workshops on the socio-economic impacts of temperature increase (2023-2024) dealt with sectors such as agriculture, culture, ecosystems, infrastructure, people, tourism and the economy, and ultimately focused on agriculture and tourism, as the driving forces of the economy of Crete.<\/p>\n

Following the above, public, governmental, regional and local data were collected and the risk and resilience of the RescueME area was assessed. These data formed the basis for the continuation of the actions to jointly find solutions with local communities for the resilience of the landscape. For this reason, between October-December 2025, this workshop on finding collaborative solutions took place with the participation of local stakeholders of the Geopark.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
