CALL FOR PROPOSALS: CREATIVE COORDINATOR – PSILORITIS UNESCO GLOBAL GEOPARK (CRETE)

Context

The RescueME project aims to strengthen the resilience of Europe’s cultural landscapes—particularly coastal areas—which are facing increasing risks due to climate change and natural hazards. A central concept of the project is that of Resilient Historic Landscapes, integrating cultural heritage, community knowledge and environmental factors into a systemic, locally oriented approach to resilience.

We announce a call for the selection of a creative coordinator to lead a local participatory co-creation process at the Psiloritis UNESCO Global Geopark in Crete. The goal is to work with local stakeholders to adapt and jointly develop solutions that address key issues already identified and prioritised in this area.

Purpose of the Call

We are seeking a freelance professional from the creative sector (artist, designer, cultural professional or community coordinator) to lead a participatory innovation process based on creativity-driven methodologies. This is not about producing an artistic work, but about harnessing creative thinking and interdisciplinary collaboration to support the development of specific resilience strategies focusing on safeguarding the northern coast of the Psiloritis Geopark (Municipalities of Rethymno & Mylopotamos).
The coordinator will co-design and implement a structured process involving relevant stakeholders—residents, representatives of the creative sectors, local institutions and others—in exploring and enhancing locally significant responses to the challenges faced by the area.

Scope of Work

The selected coordinator will:
• Participate in a preparatory online training session with Conexiones improbables, the RescueME partner responsible for this action. The training includes orientation on the project goals, methodologies and the specific context of the Psiloritis Geopark.

• Design and lead 2 online participatory co-creation sessions with local stakeholders between October and November 2025.

• Facilitate 2 days of in-person sessions at the Psiloritis Geopark between November and December 2025, focusing on validation and completion of proposed solutions.

• Guide participants through a creative and interdisciplinary collaboration adapted to the key issues of the Psiloritis Geopark.

• Contribute to documenting outcomes and providing reflective feedback.

Requirements

Applicants must

• Have proven experience in participatory methodologies and community engagement through creative or interdisciplinary approaches.

• Be able to design and facilitate participatory co-creation workshops involving multiple stakeholders (public, private and civil society).

• Demonstrate adaptability to local socio-environmental contexts, preferably with some knowledge of island or cultural environments.

• Possess excellent knowledge of Greek (for engaging with local stakeholders), as well as English or Spanish (for coordination with Conexiones improbables and RescueME partners).

• Be available to travel to the Psiloritis Geopark for a 2-day in-person session (plus travel days) between November and December 2025.
